What does the Republic day mean and why do we celebrate?

Firstly I wish you a very happy Republic Day. This day is very special for all of us because Republic Day honors the date on which the Constitution of India came into force on 26 January 1950 replacing the Government of India Act(1935) as the governing document of India.

The Constitution was adopted by the Indian Constituent Assembly on 26 November 1949 and came into effect on 26 January 1950 with a democratic government system.26 January was chosen as the Republic day because it was on this day in 1930 when the Declaration of Indian Independence (Purna Swaraj) was proclaimed by the Indian National Congress as opposed to the Dominion status offered by the British Regime. The republic day celebration is held at New Delhi in presence of President of India. On January 26, 2017, while India will showcase its technological prowess to the world, much of the audience in attendance in Rajpath will be holding on to a relic of the non-digital era, a physically purchased paper ticket.

The national assembly signed the final English and Hindi language versions of the constitution on January 24, 1950.Much effort is put towards organizing events and celebrations that occur on Republic Day in India. Large military parades are held in New Delhi and the state capitals. Representatives of the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force and traditional dance troupes take part in the parades.
