Every year when the organization “Transparency International” releases its most anticipated document, all eyes goes straight into the list trying to find their countries hoping a rank in the top among other nations. Yes, the organization releases a list ranking countries based on corruption prevailing in it. Here is the compilation of the top 10 least corrupt countries in 2016. It is measured in terms of Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) out of 100. Higher the CPI score, less corrupt the country is. Here is the list (top 10):
10. The UNITED KINGDOM & LUXEMBOURG & GERMANY
CPI score: 81.
9. CANADA
CPI score: 82.
8. NETHERLANDS
CPI score: 83.
7. SINGAPORE
CPI score: 84.
6. NORWAY
CPI score: 85.
5. SWITZERLAND
CPI score: 86.
4. SWEDEN
CPI score: 88.
3. FINLAND
CPI score: 89.
2. NEW ZEALAND
CPI score: 90.
1. DENMARK
CPI score: 90
NOTE: DENMARK and NEW ZEALAND have the same CPI score and are jointly at the top, but floating words team has decided place DENMARK ahead since they are also the happiest country on earth.
So where do INDIA rank?
Well, it’s pretty sad that world’s largest democracy is placed at 79 along with China, Belarus, and Brazil with the CPI score of mere 40. A huge work is to be done by the Indians to get away from the bottom of the list. While a small change was observed when India improved from 81 in 2015 but as they say in Hindi “Abhi Delhi bahut door hai“!
